Energy Audit (ISO 50002:2014)

An energy audit is a systematic analysis of energy consumption and use in a building, system, organization, or site. ISO 50001 serves as the basis for the introduction of an energy management system (EnMS). The central component of the
standard is an energy planning process that defines energy targets and action plans and records
all energy flows in detail.

The goal of an energy audit is to identify energy flows and potential for energy efficiency
improvements.

Energy audits can range from a quick walk-through to a comprehensive analysis. The scope of the audit depends on the needs of the client and the consultant providing the services. An energy audit may cover include:

• Electrical system
• Electrical substations
• Transformer loading practices
• Power factor management
• Unit operations
• Process steps
• Areas of material and energy use
• Sources of waste generation
