Pigging Procedure
Pigging is a maintenance process where specialized devices called “pigs” are sent through pipelines to clean, inspect, or separate product batches while the pipeline remains operational.
Key Aspects:
- Function: Removes debris, inspects pipeline conditions, and prevents contamination.
- Process:
- Launching: Pig is inserted into the pipeline.
- Operation: It moves through the pipe, performing its function.
- Receiving: The pig is collected at the endpoint.
Types of Pigs:
- Cleaning Pigs – Remove buildup and debris.
- Inspection Pigs – Detect pipeline defects.
- Batching Pigs – Separate different product batches.
