Pigging Procedure

Pigging is a maintenance process where specialized devices called “pigs” are sent through pipelines to clean, inspect, or separate product batches while the pipeline remains operational.

Key Aspects:

  • Function: Removes debris, inspects pipeline conditions, and prevents contamination.
  • Process:
    1. Launching: Pig is inserted into the pipeline.
    2. Operation: It moves through the pipe, performing its function.
    3. Receiving: The pig is collected at the endpoint.

Types of Pigs:

  • Cleaning Pigs – Remove buildup and debris.
  • Inspection Pigs – Detect pipeline defects.
  • Batching Pigs – Separate different product batches.
